Bergen, Norway : A Journey Through History and Beauty

Bergen, Norway
Bergen, Norway

Our journey into Norway began in Bergen, arriving from Stockholm with eager hearts and open minds. Bergen, often called the gateway to the fjords, instantly welcomed us with charm, history, and unforgettable moments.

We chose to stay at the Radisson Blu, a modern hotel beautifully attached to one of Bergen’s traditional and famous old buildings. It felt like the perfect balance of comfort and history, where the past and present met at our doorstep.

First Impressions

The very first walk through Bergen left us in awe. The streets looked straight out of an Instagram feed colorful wooden houses lined up by the waterfront, cobbled streets, and a city that felt alive with character. Every corner made us pause for a picture or a quiet moment of admiration.

What struck us most was how much the city whispers stories of its Viking past. As we wandered, I found myself searching for little connections symbols, artifacts, or simply the feeling that this was once a stronghold of Norse heritage.

Walking and Connecting with Locals

We walked nearly 20,000 steps each day, exploring not only the main sights but also hidden alleys and quieter corners of the city. One of the most memorable encounters was with a shopkeeper who sold old antiques.

What began as a casual stop turned into a 15 minute conversation that transported us deep into Bergen’s Viking roots. He shared stories of how the culture is still alive in the hearts of locals. To our surprise, he also turned out to be a musician whose band contributed to the Viking series, even performing in scenes set in Paris. That personal connection made Bergen feel more real, more alive, and more meaningful than just what guidebooks could offer.

The Fjord Experience

No visit to Bergen is complete without a fjord trip, and ours was nothing short of breathtaking. The day trip gave us endless views of towering cliffs, crystal waters, and small villages tucked between mountains. Being on the fjords, surrounded by nature’s grandeur, is something words can hardly capture it’s a feeling that stays with you long after you leave.

Local Tastes & Street Food

Alongside history and scenery, Bergen also charmed us with its flavors. The street food was another highlight, from fresh seafood to small local bites that carried both tradition and comfort. Tasting our way through the streets gave us another perspective of the city simple, authentic, and full of life.

Bergen wasn’t just the first stop on our Norway journey it was a place that left a deep impression on us. From the Viking spirit woven into daily life, to the grandeur of the fjords, to the warmth of local people, Bergen gave us stories and experiences that we will always carry. For us, Bergen was not only a destination, but an experience of history, culture, nature, and connection a place where every street corner feels alive with stories waiting to be discovered. #jilsangel
